Never ending travel play

Tonight's masterpeice

One pot easy traveler food

I love when out of the blue i throw things together with some inspiration and just let-go, and it becomes this insanely scrumptious meal. In tonight's muggy Manly evening on my own, it was just enough risotto rice for one. Absorption method = easier on water and absorbs while doing carrots!

1.5 times water than rice. half a cup risotto rice = one person not over eating. Bring to boil, reduce for 12-14 min, remove from heat, let stand 5-10 min. okie dokie chop some carrots into slices while yer here.... sip some chardonnay. Thanks to the hosts for a half bottle left in the fridge! it's keeping me off the vodka for the moment.

so let rice stand and put the rice in a bowl next to the fish- I'd opened a tin of mackerel fillet . yup. a tin.

then i quick rinsed the pot, threw in those chopped carrots with water to steam - very little! Maybe half a cup. add some cinnamon, don't be a stingy marmy, put a good dollop of cinnamon round those carrots. then add a good couple dollops of real, pure maple syrup. I'm canadian, do NOT insult me, nor your worthy body, by using fake, sugar laden, essence or taste or flavour of maple. That's like ...well... eating mcdonalds and calling it food. (note toself - prob not for book. could they sue me for an opinion? hey, note to you, it's just an opinion. DONT sue me for having it. there is some fairly good documentation to back my opinion up. ok, bring this carrot thing to a boil. stiring with something not metal. come on now, don't do that to your ears, the food, the pot. On that note, don't add tobacco, either. Sip some wine


drop the heat and perhaps sultry sydney in summer requires dropping a shirt, too... whatever. I'll sweat. There's a load of canuks drinking in clear view on the balcony opposite and yes, i'm like that, but not at my friend's....

yes, this also meant when the carrot water boils, drop heat to a simmer. Simmer off all the water. Keep an eye on this whole shebobinagle, and stir. and sip some wine. and stir. and then when it's a nice gloopy bit of frothy stuff that moves like syrup, take off the heat and put it in the bowl.

So. I ended up playing round trying to get the video on this insanely high tech tv/sound/computer system working. Easy as, but not so much the sound. Not happy to deal with tinny tv sound, i kept playing at it till the radio came on in the kitchen with **HUGE POWER** so even the neighbors jumped and i ran around and pushed a zillion buttons and FINALLY got it turned off. Then, about 5 minutes and lots of button pushing later, got the sound on in the correct tv room, at an acceptible decible level. This made the carrots set and was perfect.

morale is high

moral is - play with your food...

idea- make this carrot thing first, then move to bowl, to set as you cook rice. Or heck, use two pots. you could be wild like that.

Great idea- same carrot thing (gasp!) in a PAN, in the oven. oh yah baby, roast that sucker!

the fish, by the way, was the thing in the mouth that draws water and oil together, makes me salivate while eating it and makes me want more more more.... amazing. so much yum.
